What Swapna is saying about female foecide?
Feminists are contributing to female foeticide
I am a sociologist doing a PhD on Foeticide in urban India. Some of my finding are quite startling.
Agree that there is some amount of Son Preference among parents in India. But, the main cotrinbuter to foeticide is the alarmism created by feminists regarding vulnerability of women in our society. The alarmism about dowry deaths, rape created by feminists and media is sending a signal to urban indian parents that a girl always requires protection and because the the perceived in security (due to alarmism), then feel a girl in house can mean more worry and hence subconsciously they feel a girl can be a burden.
But, in reality, a man has 2 to 3 times chance of getting murdered than women. A boy has 5 times more chance of facing serious injury as a kid compared to a girl. The suicide rate of men is 1.5 times of that of women. The chance of a boy getting assaulted is 3 times more than that of a girl getting assaulted.
This side of reality is not conveyed to common masses. So, people feel, only women face violence. Its just similar to the air accidents being given more prominence in media which makes people get fear of flying. In reality, the road is 10 times riskier than air.
So, its time feminists leave goebbelian path and give both sides of statistics. They must desist from alarmism as this is stopping the Govt. from finding a Technical Solution to the foeticide problem (I mean some changes in the way the Ultra-Sound machines work: may be the image is not to be viewed and sent to a lab which submits the report).

not help women. With every 498a slapped on a family there is atleast
one women (mostly the mother of the husband) who has to go through the
legal harassment.
Would women like Girija Vyas and Brinda Karat justify this stupid harassment in the
name of protecting the arrogant bride?
Look at the bollywood stars and the movies. Where women are down to
skimpy clothes which barely covers there vital parts, do you think
these women will think twice about abusing the laws to protect
the "abala naari" when confronted by their husband or ihs family?

"Ministry biased against NRI husbands?"
This letter was sent to the editor of India Abroad newspaper. This was a well written letter which got published on 2nd December newspaper.

NRI bashing by the Ministry of Overseas Indian Affairs
I would like to bring your attention towards the website of Ministry of Overseas Indian Affairs (MOIA). There is a section which talks about the issue of "Failed and Fraudulent" marriages with NRIs ( http://www.moia.gov.in/dfmain1.asp?tid=1). It is ironical to see that the ministry which has the job of protecting NRI rights is itself trying to put all the blame for such failed marriages on NRIs. The website also publishes the letter sent by the Secretary of MOIA to all the Chief Secretaries of Indian States in this regard ( http://www.moia.gov.in/showinfo1.asp?linkid=214). There is also a draft of a booklet "Information Booklet On Marriages to Overseas Indians" which the MOIA wants to publish ( http://www.moia.gov.in/shared/linkimages/46.%2003-251005).
A cursory reading of this booklet reflects how outrageous the contents are. All the examples of 'typical incidents' the booklet cites suggests that the overseas Indian groom and his family members are cruel, arrogant and fraud. Further, it suggests that the Overseas Indian (OI, as termed in the booklet), and his family members are solely responsible for failed/failing overseas marriages.
Every 'overseas marriage' has similar problems as in an Indian marriage (Indian marriage here refers to couples married and living in India). 'Overseas Marriage' has additional caveats due to immigration/visa issues. Indian government, NCW and other women organizations cannot say that mostly 'husband's family' is responsible for "sufferings of women who are the victims of marriage to Overseas Indians". If any of the above organization has cited the statistics to support their findings, it must be present on MOIA's site (with it's source) for people to download and comment. Is the Indian government trying to suggest that OI's are female beaters, female abusers and do not have respect for their marriage and their wife? Is the government trying to prove that the NRIs who bring fame, glory and prestige for the nation are bunch of cruel people.
I have seen umpteen cases here in the United States where in a tensed relationship wife goes back to India and files a 'false dowry harassment charges' and 'misuses IPC 498a' on the husband's family. There are cases where a wife wants to support her family in India by sending them part of husband's earning and when husband objects to that, problems start in their marital life. There are cases where marriage turns sour when wife tries to control husband's life in various ways. The list of marital problems is endless and it is similar in 'overseas marriage' and 'regular Indian marriage'. Media both in the US and India has reported numerous cases in past few years where wife who married to OI male falsely accused her husband and his family of various crimes (including domestic violence). After long litigation, which drain time, money and energy, husband's family was proved innocent.
The booklet must provide details and directions for both men (including OI's) and women about how they can protect their own rights before, during and after marriage both in India as well as overseas. The MOIA should also publish the names of the NGOs, law agencies and addresses of the people who helped MOIA prepare this draft. The booklet should help all the Indian citizens irrespective of their gender and location. The MOIA should consider these views and facts before finalizing the contents.

Look what woman organizations have done to the country. All over the world

Why don't they project India as a country where they have equal

Chandigarh : For Kuldip Babbar who fought a five-yer long legal battle in courts to prove his innocence, it’s payback time.
After a local court acquitted him and his family of all charges of dowry harassment last year, Kuldip Babbar, 42, has now moved court against the UT police, his former wife and 16 other witnesses seeking damages worth Rs.2 crore (Rs.50 lakh each for his aged father; two sisters and himself) for defaming and falsely implicating him and putting his family through a harrowing time for more than five years.
Babbar has also cited mental harassment, loss of livelihood and income and expenditure incurred while defending the ‘malicious prosecution’ as reasons for seeking the damages.
Admitting the petition, Civil Judge (Senior Division) RK Bhankar issued notices to the UT IG, SSP, SHO (Sector 19 police station), Reena and other defendants, summoning them for appearance in court on February 14, 2006.
Babbar, a former resident of Chandigarh who married Reena, a resident of Jalandhar in 1993, says that he and his wife developed differences soon after the wedding on account of an alleged extra martial affair of his wife.
Their differences grew and the fights became more frequent after which Reena in collusion with the landlords of the house in Sector 21 where the family was staying lodged a dowry complaint in the Sector 19 police station.
She alleged that Babbar and his sisters had beaten her up and tried to set her on fire.
In his petition Babbar has alleged that after the false complaint was made, his father and sisters were harassed to no end, especially by certain investigating police officers who were allegedly bribed by Reena and her family. He has also submitted in court some tape recorded conversations of the telephone calls his wife made to certain officials seeking their help to falsely implicate his family.
